What Is CrossFit

FREE INTRO COURSE: RADON ACADEMY

What We Discuss In The Course:

  • Why Do You Want To Join A Gym? – We are interested in figuring out what you want to accomplish with us and building our intro course around that
  • Want To Tone Up And Get Back Into Shape? – We will teach you what proteins, carbs and fats are. What makes those “good”, what makes the “bad” and most importantly “WHY’. Day 3 will teach you how to calculate your calories, proteins, carbs and fats in order to lose weight, tone up and get more muscle definition.
  • Worried About Your Form And Not Being Able To Complete A Workout? – Every session in the Academy we learn new movements. We only progress when you are completely comfortable with the exercise. This is in a personal setting with a coach to modify anything you may need assistance with. We also dial back these workouts so that we aren’t too sore the next day because the goal is to feel better not worse right?

Testimonials

I was brand new to CrossFit when I came to Radon. I found a Groupon and figured I’d give it a try. I was really nervous due to the rumors and hearsay we have all heard about crossfit gyms. I took the fundamentals course and the coaches were wonderful in explaining everything fully and making sure we understood the movements and the workout.

After that I was hooked, I jumped right into the regular classes. With me still being new I didn’t know a lot of the movements and workouts but every class session the coaches walk through the movements before hand so everyone understands. The coaches are great and help you through out the workouts with teaching technique and making sure no one gets hurt.

The environment and community is a great aspect in itself. My very first day I walked in I was greeted by the owner and then introduced to everyone who was there that day. I immediately felt welcomed and never looked down upon or judged because I was the new person who couldn’t lift as heavy as everyone else.

Radon will hold gym functions such as movie night, game night, dinners, cook outs and such that are a great way to spend time and get to know everyone. Radon is more like a group of friends who workout and encourage each other rather than just a gym you work out at.

Case Study: How A Mother Of Two Got Her Health And Confidence Back

Our Client: Sabrina F., Norfolk, VA
Sabrina was raising two kids, had a husband who was deployed, her trainer moved and shortly after was diagnosed with Lyme disease.

Sabrina’s Challenge
Sabrina started off great, she was losing weight and gaining confidence with her new trainer. But, things came up that were out of her control and that’s when things went from great to sour. “Emotionally I was a mess, I had just finished treatments I needed for Lyme disease. My husband, Michael, was deployed. I was tired of the local fitness center because there was no motivation to go, there was candy on the table and no one there to hold you accountable. It was just crazy to me.” She went on to say, “things started to fail because I lost my accountability and depression set in”.

Sabrina was looking for a change, so when her neighbor mentioned the CrossFit gym down the street curiosity brought her to us.

Our Solution
Sabrina came to us honestly to see what CrossFit was all about. She was seeking out something to spark her motivation and weight loss and to get back the accountability that she had lost. This is what she said about her first experience, “the atmosphere and the people here kind of serve to help inspire everybody. One of the first members I met was Mike and immediately I was blown away by how intimidating he looked but how sweet he was right off of the bat.” In our hour group classes we create a very supportive and encouraging environment to make sure that from day one you feel comfortable.

We met with Sabrina first to talk about her goals and what she had tried so far. If we had thought her goals were unrealistic, we would have told her so. But her goals seemed fine. What was missing was a comprehensive program that combined the physical aspects of training to decrease her weight as well as a personal trainer to keep her accountable. In addition to this we put her through our free course that taught her everything she would need to know about the nutrition to fuel her workouts and to tone up.

The Result
Sabrina has lost nearly 20 pounds of body fat, 3 inches from her belly and is able to do things she never thought she could. She says, “when I am sitting my belly doesn’t touch the top of my legs anymore. I remember sitting at my work table, it was hot and I was sweating and I remember that I had to wipe the sweat from under my stomach. My back boobs are gone. The handles that I had on the top of my hips have shrunk immensely and I have dropped 2 pant sizes.” She goes on to say “the Fundamentals class that I took one on one with the owner and Ian’s programming have helped keep myself out of my own head and constantly reminding me that everything will be fine.”

Sabrina’s new approach to training and nutrition is paying off for her. Her next goal it to run a 5k in 30-35 minutes. She has already made it down to 42 minutes!

Case Study: How Matthew Lost 12.1 Pounds and Got His Confidence Back

Our Client: Matthew T., Norfolk, VA

Matthew was emotionally unsatisfied taking off his shirt, physically out of shape and had lost all motivation to work out.

Matthew’s Challenge

Matthew was pretty active growing up and had a lot of interest in sports. During school to become and Athletic Trainer he started to lose his way. “Emotionally I was content but I was unsatisfied taking my shirt off at the beach or just my overall way of life. Physically I was very out of shape and I wanted to get back my competitive fight and just a healthier way of life.” He goes on to say “I just genuinely wanted to be more motivated to go to the gym.”
“I had a membership to the fitness center and I would go a maximum of 2 to 3 times a month and it wasn’t really rewarding at all. I didn’t notice any physical or emotional change at all. I had zero motivation.” Matthew knew he needed a change and to take his health seriously. His friend recommended a CrossFit gym down the street and decided to give us a try.

Our Solution

Matthew came to us looking for motivation and accountability. This would lead him to get back into shape and to ultimately gain his confidence back. This is what he said about his experience “the comradery to keep coming in and continuously creating new bonds keep me coming back on a daily basis. Also, being able to track my progress consistently allows me to know that I am doing things that I’ve never done before.” Each of our one hour classes are led by a coach who is there to answer any questions you may have and to make sure you safely perform the movements. Matthew said this about our coaches, “the education to answer questions and give me direct feedback. Either it be a question on stretching or technique. Just being able to immediately assist in any way has made everything much easier.”
We first met with Matthew to discuss where he was and what his goals were. Everything he wanted to achieve was very attainable and could be done in a reasonable amount of time. All we needed to do was to keep him motivated during our classes so he could stay consistent with our program. In addition to this we taught him what to eat so that he could have energy during his workouts and lose fat.

The Results

Matthew has lost 12.1 pounds of body fat, regained his motivation and got his confidence back. He says “performing everyday tasks are a lot easier. My energy levels and my confidence has gone up and I am feeling better in my own skin.”
Matthew’s new accountability and motivation is paying off for him and he has already set new goals. He is planning to complete his FIRST CrossFit competition this May!
